Social Security

Medicaid & HUSKY Benefit Redeterminations

Suspension of timeframes for renewal of Medicaid/HUSKY Health & Cash Assistance benefits of current beneficiaries. 

If your medical or cash assistance benefits were scheduled to end in March 2020—benefits will be automatically continued through June 2020.

If your medical or cash assistance benefits are scheduled to end in April 2020—benefits will be automatically continued through July 2020.

Economic Impact Payments

Federal Economic Impact payments will be based off of the IRS Form SSA-1099 and Form RRB-1099 to Social Security recipients who did not file tax returns in 2018 or 2019. Recipients will recieve these payments as a direct deposit or by paper check.

Social Security recipients who do NOT typically file a tax return do not need to take any action. Payment will be recieved directly into their bank account, as per Steven Mnuchin.

Housing Assistance

Suspension of Reapplication Requirements for:
Homeowners’ elderly/disabled circuit breaker tax relief program
Homeowners’ elderly/disabled freeze tax relief program
This allows recipients of this benefit for the coming year without recertifying their eligibility.

Both sites are continuing to provide services with no restrictrions. Fares are currently being waived.

CT State Services

CT Suspends in-person investigative visits regarding reports of elder abuse:

The order temporarily suspends the requirement for a state official conducting an investigation of elder abuse to perform an in-person visit to the elderly person and extends the time required to report the results of the investigation.

Department of Social Services suspends in-person visits at all facilities

Suspension of the requirement that public assistance benefit overpayments be immediately recouped

Taxes

The deadline for paying 2019 income taxes has been extended to July 15th, however, the tax filing deadline is still April 15th.   The CT state income tax deadline is still April 15th.

VITA is a free service for inviduals to recieve help with filing taxes. They are currently offering virtual assistance to people with access to the internet.

Applications are open year-round for HUSKY Health coverage (Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program.)

Uninsured residents with low and moderate incomes are encouraged to:

Senior Center Activity

Although all senior centers are closed to the public, staff continue to assist the community telephonically. This includes assistance with resources and answering questions.

Adult Day Center Status

All Adult Day Centers are working in a different capacity until further notice. Even if the building is closed or no longer accepting guests, ADCs continue to provide telephonic supervision and interactions along with 2 meals a day for clients presently attending ADC unless an alternative plan was developed with the family or staff.
