Care Giver Support

The State of Connecticut offers two programs that offer financial support to Caregivers. The Southwestern Ct Agency on Aging administers both programs for 14 towns in Fairfield County. These programs provide the Caregiver a break or “respite” from the challenges of caring for a loved one. A completed application is required before a Care Manager can conduct an in-home assessment to discuss the program and services. Services may vary and can be adjusted as the caregiver or loved one’s needs change.

RESPITE PROGRAMS OFFERED IN SOUTHWESTERN CT:

There are two respite care programs offered in Southwestern Connecticut.

Connecticut Statewide Respite Care Program (CSRP) is specifically designed for individuals who have a verified doctor’s diagnosis of Dementia and are residing in the community being cared for by an informal caregiver. The caregiver does not need to be a relative or reside with the individual with Dementia. There is no age requirement for the caregiver or individual receiving the care. This program offers respite services up to $7,500.00 per grant year and is based on the individual’s needs and available funding. A cost-share contribution is requested.

National Family Caregiver Support Program (NFCSP) is available to people who are providing care for an individual age 60+ and reside in the community. The caregiver does not need to be a relative or reside with the individual. A Caregiver can receive up to $3,500 in services per grant year based on the individual’s needs and available funding. A cost-share contribution is requested.

I need help paying for incidental supplies, is there any assistance with these items?

Supplemental Services

A unique complement within the National Family Caregiver Support Program is Supplemental Services. This limited fund (maximum of $750 per grant year), is designed to supplement and assist the caregiver with services or supplies that are not covered by insurance, Medicare or Medicaid.

What types of items are covered under Supplemental Services?

Services/supplies covered may include adult diapers, lift chairs, emergency response systems, durable medical equipment or in-home modifications, i.e. grab bars, tub chairs and raised toilet seats. Decisions regarding the appropriate supplemental services are based on needs as assessed. All reasonable requests will be considered. A cost-share contribution is requested.
