May is "Older Americans' Month"

Every May since 1963, people across the country have come together to celebrate the enormous contributions of older Americans—born of wisdom, experience, and the will to realize their dreams and speak their minds. Older Americans Month is our chance to show our appreciation and support our seniors as they continue to enrich and strengthen our communities.

The CT Association of Area Agencies on Aging joined in the festivities by sponsoring a state wide essay contest. The theme of this year’s celebration was “Never Too Old To Play.”  Thanks to the Official Essay Contest Judge, Margaret Gerundo-Murkett, Department of Social Services Elderly Services Division, the following people have been named as the regional winners and the Grand Champion.

Regional Winners:

The Grand Champion:

  •
Amy Hollander, Director Senior Adult Programs, Jewish Community Center
    Gretchen James, Project Manager, SWCAA
Leslie Meyers, Essay Contest Grand Champion
Margarette Gerundo-Murkette, Acting Director, State Unit on Aging, Department of Social of Services
Eric Koehler, CEO, Jewish Community Center
