Everyone on Medicare will be issued a new MBI (Medicare Beneficiary Identifier – aka Medicare number). The MBI card will arrive by mail for Connecticut residents beginning sometime after June 2018. You must make sure that your address on file with Medicare is your current address. You can confirm your address when you login at – SSA.gov/my account or by calling 800-772-1213 TTY 800-325-0778
The new MBI cards will be mailed on a random rollout to individuals throughout the year and the entire process is expected to be completed by April 2019.
When your new card arrives, you should use it immediately and destroy your old card.
Scammers have already begun attempting to obtain individuals personal information with the new card initiative. You will not be contacted by telephone from Social Security or any other trustworthy agency regarding the new cards.
